Young Kiwi baseballers recently got the chance to learn from an Olympic medal winning superstar, as an MLB initiative called "training with the pros" came to New Zealand. Japan baseball legend Naoyuki Shimizu was in the country to help promote the growing sport. MLB scouts were also on call to assess local talent as the pathway to professional baseball is opening up for Kiwis. Shimizu was a bronze medal winner at the 2004 Athens Olympics with Japan and was a part of the Japanese team that claimed gold at the 2006 World Baseball Classic in San Diego.
